Hi,

I refer to the above link and quote: ‘The Wine Train to the Lavaux Region Vineyards is essentially a local regional train departing from the Vevey Rail Station, traveling up into the UNESCO World Heritage terraced wine vineyards above Lake Geneva. The train links Vevey to Puidoux via Chexbrex.’

With Swiss Travel Pass (STP) in hand, what should my travel plan be if I start off from Lausanne so that I can get the most from STP? In the circumstance, how much will I have to pay for the ticket in riding the LAVAUX WINE TRAIN?

Hi Gordon,

Swiss Travel Pass – good choice!

The Wine train is just the regular regional train which goes through the vineyards: http://www.region-du-leman.ch/en/P629/train -des-vignes-train-ride-vevey-puidoux

The reason it is differentiated is because the track that takes intercity (fast) trains goes along the lake so the vineyards cannot be appreciated in the same way… You can plan to take it using the timetable for travelling times and connections (just enter Lausanne to Puidoux): http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

In addition, when you get to Chexbres you can take the Panoramic train on wheels, which offers wine tasting etc (this is not covered by the Swiss Travel Pass).

Personally though, I prefer to stroll through the vineyards. We have a walk that might interest you: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/lutry-epesses

It was not clear to me from your post, that the wine train is fully covered by the STP.

I thinks that is implied in your comments, but, I thought that I’d double check.

Nothing extra…since it is “regular” intercity train, its fare is covered by the STP.

Hi Slowpoke,

Yes, it’s fully covered. It’s a regular train on a regular though scenic (short) route. No reservations required either.
