We are a family of four adults plan a trip staring from

Day1 Geneva, Zermatt,Matterhorn, and spend first night in Zermatt,

Day 2 travel to Altesch glacier, Lauterburnnen valley visit the water falls, and to Murren and stay the second night,

Day 3 we plan to travel from Murren,Interlaken, Lucerne, Zurich back to Geneva.

Can some one advise on the best mode of transport

Which Rail pass we should get?

Can we visit all these locations by train using a travel pass?

    Hi sarweeing, welcome to MySwissAlps!

You’ll certainly get to see a whole lot in just 3 days. Mind that your itinerary is a bit ambitious. You’d best check travel times with the aid of the timetable. I’m especially concerned about day 3. Zurich-Geneva is 2h45 train ride, so there’s not that much time to visit all towns on your list. I’d advise to skip Lucerne and/or Zurich. You could just spend another morning in the Jungfrau region (especially if you’re there in late Spring or Summer, when many stunning viewing points are accessible by mountain train or cable car) before heading back for Geneva. In case of bad weather, consider a visit to Thun or Bern, which makes a bit more sense in terms of traveling time. You may want to get back using the Golden Pass route, but this ride will take longer than the regular quicker train connection.

Likewise, on day 2, visiting the Aletsch glacier (Bettmerhorn or Eggishorn are recommended) will consume a large part of your day. It’s doable, but you should check the timetable and see whether you’re fine with such a full schema.

In any case, public transport is the recommended mode of traveling and a 3 day Swiss Travel Pass seems to make most sense for your plans. You’ll find all details, including purchase options and a validity overview, at our Swiss Travel Pass page.

    Thank you Annika,

Yes day 3 we may have to think of since I prefer Luceren to Zurich on this day. We can visit Zurich on a later date. As we arrive in Geneva on 8th June and hop in to Berlin and Paris before we head back home on 21st. So the golden pass route we can do on a separate day, since.

What is special in Bern and Thun? We can always change schedules since we are travelling in June.

    Happy to get your comments.

Thank you all very much for the information. We are seriously thinkiing of spending one day at Thun or Bern. Please can you eexplain the best way to reach Eggishorn when coming from Zermatt. Can we use the swiss travel pass through out the journey from Zermatt to Eggishorn and the total time taken for the trip.
