Just to let others know – I’m in a dispute with HappyRail. I purchased 2 Swiss Rail half-fare passes and 2 Berner Oberland regional passes for my upcoming trip from the website link on MySwissAlps. Their website shows the costs for this are CHF 119 and CHF 265, respectively. For unknown reasons, they charged my card CHF 120 and CHF 268 (times 2, of course, for the 2 of us). I have sent them several emails with screenshots of the error, and so far they have not acknowledged the over charge.

I know, it’s only 8 bucks total, but still…..I probably should have waited until we land in Zurich and bought the passes at the train station there.

    Just FYI, Barry

    Hi Barry,

That’s weird! What’s your order number? Perhaps I can check with them.

That is about the right charge if it is in USD on your credit card….is it 120 and 268usd?

Hi, Lucas – no, the charges are in CHF on my credit card – CHF 776. And my credit card converts with no foreign currency transaction fees. The USD amount is $782.81, which is the correct conversion. It’s just that they should have charged me 119 x 2 + 265 x 2 = 768 CHF

I know – only 8 bucks……that buys 2 cups of coffee in Switzerland…..I agree that this is odd – Happy Rail does seem to be a professional organization.

Arno, I just wrote back to them for the fourth time – let’s see what they do. Invoice VL5UKA

Thanks for the additional details Barry. I passed it all on to them and hope to find out what caused the difference.

Happyrail is definitely a professional organisation, or we would not list them on our pages. They’re also still making improvements. This should be an interesting case for them.

Buying online is somewhat standard nowadays. It saves time on arrival and the PDF files of the passes are a handy backup – loosing a pass is a thing of the past. But with a dispute the saved time is of course gone. Let’s see if we can solve this and get you your coffees back!

I just got an email from HappyRail, resolving the issue, refunding the overcharge. They were quite apologetic.

That’s great! I still hope to find out what caused this though 🙂 If I do, I’ll share it here.

Arno, I’m guessing that it was your doing that got this resolved so quickly.

My grandmother always said, “It’s the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.” You just need to know who to squeak at.

    Many thanks!

    Hi Barry,

I’m glad it’s solved for you! They said it’s the first time they’ve encountered this issue. I haven’t seen it before either. They’re now investigating what went wrong.

    Happy travels!
