We are travelling to Hotel Meisser in Guarda/Engadin area (hope this correct spelling) on first week Jan/ 2017, trying to find on your site info on typical weather for that time and suggestions for walks and sights to see, (we are not skiers).

    Thankyou

    Hi Peterworth –

    Welcome to My Swiss Alps.

<<“We are travelling to Hotel Meisser in Guarda/Engadin area (hope this correct spelling) on first week Jan/ 2017, trying to find on your site info on typical weather for that time and suggestions for walks and sights to see, (we are not skiers).”>>

Lovely area, but even after many trips there, often staying at Hotel Piz Buin just up the road from Hotel Meisser, we have never been there in the Winter.

Guarda itself is worth walking around, as is Scuol. Thermal baths in Scuol are pretty spectacular.

You could run up the valley to St.Moritz and take the cograil up to Muottas Murgal from Pontresina.

I suspect that hiking will be limited by snow. Hope not.

    Weather is influenced by altitude:

Some pictures attached from warmer times. One shows Bos-Cha from our room in the Piz Buin Hotel

In the summer, we like to take the lift from near Scuol Bahnhof to Motta Naluns, then walk to the lift above Ftan Prui, whence we could take a bus back to Scuol.

The walk from Ftan to Ardez is quite nice as well, if the trails are open. The route goes along a road, which is likely to be maintained.

The Motta Naluns to Prui trail Slowpoke mentioned is open in winter too; I think it’s suitable for sledding as well. The whole area is wonderful in winter. Hiking is limited, but some trails will be open. The tourist office will have up to date information.

    Hi Arno-

We were able to join the tour of Schloss Tarasp one time. The tours are infrequent. After we climbed up to the entrance, rushing to join the tour, we had to catch our breath. A steep climb. If a tour is available, it is definitely worthwhile.

I’m sure that would be a wonderful day trip in winter as well!
