Hi, I will have 4 days in Interlaken with a 3-day Jungfraujoch pass on Day 2 to Day 4. My itinerary is Day 1 (open for 3 hours), Day 2 (Jungfraujoch), Day 3 (Lake Brienz/Grindelwald) and Day 4 (Schilthorn/Murren/Brig/Lauterbrunnen). I am thinking using the 3 hour slot on Day 1 to see Interlaken. Alternatively is to use Day for Grindelwald, Murren or Lauterbrunnen and then optimize Day 3/4 accordingly.

    1) Is there much to see or do in Interlaken town ?

    2) is 2.5 hour sufficient for Grindelwald, Murren or Lauterbrunnen ? I understand the Swiss Travel Pass should cover the trains to these places. Can advise ? Based on my itinerary, which of the 3 would make more sense to shift to Day 1 ?

    Thanks

    Hi zeto,

To be honest I am not a huge fan of Interlaken 🙂 But you can spend some time there for sure.

You can also visit Harder Kulm, which is great: http://www.myswissalps.com/harderkulm. With your Swiss Travel Pass you get 50% discount.

Or you can take a boat cruise from Interlaken on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun. Free with Swiss Travel Pass.

If you would like to visit Grindelwald First (http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwaldfirst) too, you’ll need more time. But Grindelwald First is discounted with the Swiss Travel Pass, see the validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

With your Swiss Travel Pass, you can visit Wengen (http://www.myswissalps.com/wengen) and Mürren (http://www.myswissalps.com/murren) for free.

There are things to see in Interlaken, but it is not a very big place. As the name suggests (it is an English sounding name) the modern town called Interlaken is really a ‘new town’ comprising several villages created when tourism got going in the 19th century. The part of town north of the river/lake is actually called Unterseen

And WHEN will you be in Switzerland? In winter the lake boat rides do not run, for example. In early October the mountain towns are pretty empty due to closed hotels and other businesses as this is the change over time from fall to winter.

    Hi Pvonk,

I will be in Switzerland from 2 – 20 Oct. I have a about 3 hours on 10 Oct and 3 full days from 11 – 13 Oct. and staying in Interlaken from 10 – 14 Oct. My plan is to get a 3-Day Jungfrau Travel Pass to cover : Day 2 (Jungfraujoch), Day 3 (Lake Brienz/Grindelwald) and Day 4 (Schilthorn/Murren/Brig/Lauterbrunnen).

    1) Does my 3 day itinerary makes sense ? Not sure if I am packing too much on Day 3 ?

    2) Do you think it will crowded at the time I visit ?

    3) I am trying to see what I can best do on 10th with just the Swiss Travel Pass without incurring too much additional expenses ?

    Thanks

    Hi zeto,

If you want just to visit Grindelwald, without going to First (https://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwaldfirst) or Pfinstegg (https://www.myswissalps.com/pfingstegg), Day 3 will be fine.

On Day 4 (Schilthorn/Murren/Brig/Lauterbrunnen), is it Birg instead of Brig, right: https://www.myswissalps.com/schilthorn/gettingthere? So you are not leaving the Jungfrau region on that day, right?
