We are visiting Interlaken Sept 16 -18 and would like to go to jungfraujoch on Sept 17. Our travel to interlaken is by car. I would also like to go on a boat tour of Lake Thun, and possibly one other half day trip into the mountains. Is the Swiss half fare card my best discount option.

Hello Sue and welcome to MySwissAlps

Is that all you are doing in Switzerland? If you go by train from Interlaken to Jungfraujoch then you will almost break even on the cost of a Swiss Travel Pass on that trip alone. So you will save on your Thunersee trip and your other half-day excursion. If you are doing other things as well in Switzerland that require public transport then the SHFC is a no brainer.

If you happen to have kids with you then see http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard.

    Hello Sue,

As stated by Rockoyster, the regular ticket to the Jungfraujoch is fairly expensive and so for sure a Swiss Half Fare Card or as Rockoyster says a Swiss Travel Pass would be recommendable:

For detailed calculations of your planned trips and to compare rail passes please find a helpful step by step instruction as well as a very helpful spreadsheet for calculations see below link:

As you seem to move mainly around the Jungfrau Region also make sure to check the Jungfrau Travel Pass:

Happy calculating and get back to us anytime for further support.

    Best,
    Steph
