    Hi Jennyfer,

Based on your itinerary, I reckon getting an 8-day Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass) may be sufficient and it might sensible to start using it on Day 3. On Day 1, you can purchase a point-to-point ticket from Milan to Lugano here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy. You will probably get a Ticino Visitor Card from your hotel which provides free usage of public transport so you can use this on Day 2. With the Swiss Travel Pass, you can travel for free on Swiss public transport and enjoy discounts on mountain excursions until Day 10: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. On Day 11, you will be travelling to Germany so you won’t need the Swiss Travel Pass anymore. You can find information about tickets to Germany here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/germany

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Anna,

Thank you for yr prompt reply.

Sorry, I’m a bit confused from your reply. I ‘m not travelling to Milan, Lugano and Germany.

Appreciate it if you could kindly enlighten further.

By the way, my base is in basel and I’m not staying in hotel.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Jennyfer

    Hi Jennyfer,

Sorry about that. Somehow the wrong excel sheet appeared on my screen. Anyway I managed to locate the right one.

So you’re travelling from Nov 24 to Dec 14 via Basel. Correct me if I am wrong.

Based on your spreadsheet, it seems like the 15-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex provides the best value. So yes, I would go with that. Your calculation is based on 11 days, which leaves you with 4 extra travel days that you can use the Swiss Travel Pass Flex during your trip. So you can potentially make more saving planning day trips on those days.

Options to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass Flex here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/price

    Thanks, Anna.

No worries. Yes, you got it right.

This is the first time I am doing the fare calculation. Appreciate it if you could assist to have a quick look if I have got the fare correctly so to ensure that my comparison is correct.

This is how I did it:

Normal fare – i used the SBB apps n selected the normal fare for my destination.

Half fare pass – I take 50% of the above normal fare.

Swiss travel pass – i just put in the additional cost for jungfraujoch, gornegrat and bernina seat reservation.

Not sure if I have put in the correct fare for all my destinations.

    Your advice is much appreciated.

Also, any promo for the Swiss Travel Pass Flex?

    Thank you.

    Hi Jennyfer,

I double-checked some of your fares and yes, your calculations look correct to me. If you’ve followed the steps at https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass, and the explanation about finding normal ticket prices at https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable, the outcome should be reliable.

And even apart from the exact outcome, the 15-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex is simply a perfect fit for your plans. I think you’ll also like the ease of use on your free travel days, as you can go wherever you want without getting additional tickets (except for discounted mountains). Getting tickets for each trip is something you would have to do if you’d opt for the Swiss Half Fare Card.

There no current promotions for the 15-day Swiss Travel Pass Flex, and no future ones that we know of. If there are, you’ll find them at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price and https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/promotions. We’ll also announce pass discounts in our forum.

Many thanks, Arno. It is much appreciated.

By the way, I would like to try sledging for beginner. I m in my 50s and not looking for high adrenalin kind of sledging, thus looking for a short distance and without steep descend. Just wanna have an experience with sledging. Based on my itinerary, where can I do the sledging for beginners? I may go to Mt Pilatus too.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jennyfer,

We’ve listed sled runs in several categories at http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/winter/snow. The one at Fräkmüntegg (half-way up to Pilatus) is an easy one, definitely suitable for beginners.
