    Hello!

My family will be in Switzerland on May 17-21, 2019. We will visit Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn, and Gornergrat. We will also do the hike from Murren to Gimmelwald after our visit to Schilthorn. I’ve read in some forums that it will be muddy in Murren in May. Would you really not recommend going to Murren on those dates? Is it really impossible to see lush green valleys in May?

    Thanks!

Hello Joan and Welcome to MySwissAlps

I was in Mürren in on 21 May 2017 and the weather was fabulous with plenty of hikers about. Having said that the weather in the Alps is fickle so nothing is guaranteed.

You will certainly see a lot of lush green valleys.

    Hi Joan,

“Muddy” only applies to the higher hiking trails where the snow is still melting. You can’t walk there in May, but there will be other options down in the valley or half way up the mountains.

    Hi Arno!

Thanks for clarifying! In that case Murren to Gimmelwald will be a good choice for a short hike right?

Oh yes, that should not be a problem in May. Always check though, there are no guarantees in the mountains. A few other options:
