    Hi!
This is a lovely forum to share and seek information. After going through lots of threads, we have come up with following itinerary. Any suggestions/ feedbacks are welcome.
Day 1- land in Zurich; reach Montreux by train; sleep off fatigue
Day 2- trip to Vevey- Chaplin’s world, Lavaux vineyards, Chillon castle. Glacier 3000 in afternoon.
Day 3- Rochers-de-naye. Shift to Zermatt. Gornegrat and local sightseeing.
Day 4- shift to Interlaken for 3 nights. Boat trip to thun, briez and spiez- St. Beatus Caves, near thun lake
Day 5- Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch (your suggestions please, we will have a 7 yo with us), Sherlock Holmes museum
Day 6- Gstaad, Spiez, Harder Klum
Day 7- pack and leave for Lucerne. Leave lugguage at station. Full day local sightseeing and move to Zurich for the night
Day 8- Liechtenstein, Rhine falls, stoos
    Day 9- fly back

Not too keen on Panoramic Trains, but would be a bonus if we could cover any of the above routes through these special trains. Will be purchasing 8 day Swiss travel pass. Is there a day card which we could use for the ninth day?

    Thanks in advance…

Hello Cjvd and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Nice to hear you’re coming to Switzerland and also that you’ve found lots of helpful information on our page so far.

I recommend you get familiar with the timetable of Swiss transportation, provided in below link. It’s a fabulous tool for planning and you will get a much clearer idea of the do-ability of your itinerary.

You don’t mention, when you are coming, this can be relevant with regards to mountain transportation, e.g. the Schilthorn is not accessible from the 11th Nov – 6th of Dec.

On day 9, will you “only” be in Zurich and then leaving via Zurich Airport?! Then you can go for a local ticket. Find an in-depth thread on the options available here:

If you plan to do some more exploring, you can also look into the Saver Day Pass:

You could theoretically fit in some of the Glacier Express on your way to Zermatt, whereas you can also just do the journey on regular trains, preventing you from a mandatory sear reservation and providing the same scenery. Depending on when you come, the Glacier Express panoramic train will no longer run, it operates until the 13th of October and then again starting on the 15th of Dec.

Best and get back to us anytime for further input.

Hi cjvd, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

You are overambitious for at least three days:

Day 2: You’ll want to spend at least 1 1/2 hours at Chaplin’s World, and the Lavaux hike would require 2 hours or more. Why not skip G3000 since you go to other high mountain places?

Day 3: Doable, but it will be long and exhausting day. Decide on Gornergrat depending on the weather(btw when do you plan to travel?)

Day 8: Switzerland is a small country, but your three destinations are “far” apart.

Don’t worry, you can adjust your program as you go, depending on your energy and wishes to relax. My son went to Jungfraujoch aged 9 and got sick, but that cannot be generalized. Have a light breakfast, and when you reach the top go slowly first to have a dring and sit. Don’t rush when up there, plan to stay 2 hours up there. If things turn out to be worrying: there is a medic up there.
