    Heelo team,

I plan on arriving Switzerland, Geneva on 28th of March, 2019.

I shall stay there for 3 days and have a early morning 6:45 flight to Naples, Italy on 31st morning from Zurich

I would like to hike on one of the mountains that takes not more than a day (climb and return). Looked for the Randa one but that seems to be closed when I arrive. Unfortunatelly, I have been unable to find enough time to look in détail and fix an itenery. I did look at the forum questions but just got more confused.I would be greatful if a 3 day itenery could be suggested along with the travel (Swiss Travzel Pass or any other way which is cheaper).

    Travel dates : 28/03/2019- 31/02/2019

Stay : I know someone in Zurich, Reiden, which I know is far. I save on my stay in that case.

What do I prefer : 1- Hiking 3/4 hours max one way. With a breathtaking view.

    2- Scenic views. Nature,

    3- Passing by the suspension bridge;

City life is not Something that interests me much but if it is worth visiting and it fits in my travel time I wouldn’t mind

I wouldn’t mind buying â pass untill and unless it is super useful and cheaper than taking direct trains everywhere.

    Thanking you in advance.

    Best regards,

    SOnal

    Hi SOnal –

    I suspect this is a typo. 😉

    <<“Travel dates : 28/03/2019- 31/02/2019”>>

If not, I would like to learn about your time-travel machine. 😉

To be serious, March is a difficult time in the mountains for hiking or climbing. It is nearing the end of ski season, and most trails will be covered with snow at higher altitudes. Some trails…mostly easy ones…are groomed for hiking during the Winter, but …and I don’t know the exact timing… by the end of March, they have deteriorated and are not maintained.

And, as you note, Reiden is not in the mountains. In case you meant that it is in Zürich, it is not. And, Zürich is also not in the high mountains.

    It is in Canton Luzern:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Reiden

    map.search.ch/Reiden?pos=640335,232658&z=8

Those are not critical locations….train travel will get you to the mountains in a few hours.

However, I think that we may not understand exactly what you mean by:

<<“I would like to hike on one of the mountains that takes not more than a day (climb and return).”>

Do you hope to actually climb up a mountain?

If not, you might meet some of your goals by going up on top of Pilatus, near Luzern. It is an easy trip from Reiden. And, you can do it from Zürich.

You won’t have much of a walk up there, but there is abit of a trail for walking.

Further afield, but still reachable, is Titlis. I think it will have to much snow for serious hiking, but, I mention it for completeness:

Also near Luzern, is a lower mountain, the Rigi. it is possible that some of the trails on the Rigi might be passable. Maybe.

There are some nice views there, too.

I don’t know how to help with yur request for a suspension bridge.

And, if you wish to hike, but a lower altitudes, more trails will be passable.m Some of these might be worth considering then:

Scroll down for a wide variety of hikes.

We don’t develop itineraries on the Forum, but, we do suggest places that you night wis to see, as i have done in this post.

We recommend planning travel by using a map, such as the one i linked above for Reiden, and the timetable, which will give you routes and times:

    Hello Slowpoke,

thank you so much fro all the suggestions.

I appreciate your response. will be helpful in planning further.

What about 3 days swiss rail pass? even if I plan on doing even Geneva – Zurich one way and the a trip to either pilatus / titlis/ rigi? and other local travel?

    Hi Sonal,

What’s included in the Swiss Travel Pass can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity. All the town to town trains are free, and boats too. Rigi is free and the other two mountains you mentioned are 50% discounted.

Once you have an itinerary this page helps you to pick the cheapest travel pass, if you want to: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

    Hi Sonal

Regarding the suspension bridge, I assume you mean the Charles Kuonen one, that was inaugurated in 2017 and is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world at Randa near Zermatt (I’ve been meaning to go there!):

    http://www.theguardian.com/tr avel/2017/aug/02/world s-longest-pedestrian-suspension-bridge-swiss-alps-charles-kuonen

For that you would need to go towards Zermatt and use the timetable as suggested by Slowpoke, however as you say it is probably closed in March.

However Switzerland has plenty of suspension bridges… If I may suggest a really nice trail (not a difficult hike but you spend 2-3 hours hanging from suspension bridges), would be this one in canton Valais:

    http://www.les-bisses-du-valais.ch/en/Bisse/Bis se-du-Torrent-Neuf-Saviese/

Your limiting factor is the time of the year, since it may be very windy/rainy up there but it would be doable specially from Geneva.

Otherwise you can find a couple of suspension bridges in the Engelberg area as well, in which case you want to be based around Lucerne: http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne

and why not change your hiking plans to snowshoeing? It might be easier to find nice snowshoeing trails at that time of the year, specially around Engelberg.

Once you plan your trip more in detail let us know if we can help you with the final touches!

    Maria.
