My family (me, husband, daughter with two chlidren (1y and 4y ) will have a trip to Switzerland on 12 Oct – 27 Oct 2019

    The itinerary is as follows:

    • 12 oct – 15 Oct : Arrive in Zurich, go directly to Luzern ( Rigi, Pilatus, Verkehrshaus, Aeschbach Chocolatier )
    • 15 Oct – 19 Oct ; by train to Lausanne ( Swissvapeur Parc, Lac de Sauvabelin )
    • 19 Oct – 23 Oct : by train to Zurich ( husband will attend business conference , me, daughter and grandchildren will explore the city, like zoo, Lenzburg Castle, Uetliberg, etc )
    • 23 Oct – 26 Oct: my son and son-in-law join us by train to Interlaken (Schilthorn, Jungfrau )
    • 26 Oct – 27 Oct : by train to Zurich Airport to catch the morning flight back home

Since we go with toddlers , we do not rush, and preferable choose the place where kids also enjoy it.

Can anybody advise us which places that we should see or skip? We have purchased the Swiss Travel Pass for the trip, and booked non-refundable hotel rooms, so the city where we stay is already fixed.

    Regards

    Dea

    Hi Dea –

Welcome to My Swiss Alps –

That sounds like an excellent itinerary. Lots of time to explore each area.

Your timing for the Bernese Oberland is impeccable. Many of the cableways have their last day of service on October 27th, before maintenance shut down on October 28th.

In Western Switzerland, you might consider:

and the cities linked from that page.

For each city on your itinerary, , if you have not already done so, look up the city name in this section of the forum:

Zürich shows up as a city and a region, and Luzern is in Central Switzerland.

Lake boat rides on Lake Lucerne are one of my favorite ways to deal with a jet lag day.

I particularly like the southern part ( from Flüelen to approximately Brunnen or Weggis).

For the Bernese Oberland, though they will be quiet, the villages of Wengen and Mürren, as well the others noted on this page, will give a much more Alpine experience than Interlaken itself:

    Hi Dea,

Thanks for sharing your itinerary. It’s definitely do-able with small children — plenty of kids-friendly attractions and enough room for flexibility. The children will enjoy the The Swiss Transport Museum (Verkehrshaus) in Lucerne. It’s a huge place and worth spending the whole day. Remember you get 50% of the Swiss Transport Museum tickets when you show your Swiss Travel Pass. Other museums will allow you free entrance with the Swiss Travel Pass. You can check the details here:

Since you are travelling with small children, I’d just like to point out that when you travel on the train to Lausanne or Interlaken, try to get on the double-decker Intercity train that has a Ticki Park included. This is a family carriage that has a playground for kids to play in (with slides et al) and also features comfortable seating for families.

All the links which Slowpoke mentioned in his posts are useful. If you’d like to explore more places and add more things to do, feel free to visit the links.

We wish you and your family a good trip!

    Anna

    Hi Slowpoke and Anna

Thank you for the reply and advice . Hope we still have a chance to use the cableways before it shut down, depends on the weather.
