Hello maizon and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

On arrival I’d suggest you catch a direct train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne (1 hour) and stay overnight there.

From Lucerne you can follow the Golden Pass LIne (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass) to Montreux. Have a look at the route and see which of the places along the way appeal for a stopover. You can find out more about any of the major towns along the way by using the search box at the top right of this page.

Use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel.

The Swiss Travel Pass Area of Validity map ( PDF downloadable from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity) will show you where you can travel for free or with discounts.

Depending on what time you are leaving Geneva the airport is with 1½ hours of Montreux.

Yes you can but it is much more convenient to buy on-line and print at home before you travel. You just nominate the day you want the pass to start. Not only do you get to print and carry backup copies of the pass you also avoid any queueing to buy it at the station. You can buy on-line from a number of outlets shown here http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/price.

If you go direct to Luzern from the airport the fare is only CHF30 so you would need to weigh up if it makes sense to use a day from your pass for that. A 4-day pass costs you almost CHF 70 per day.

No, it’s not. Reservations are optional.

However, the sector from Zweisimmen to Montreux is very popular and attracts large tour groups. It is recommended to reserve this sector to ensure you get a window seat and that you and any travel companions can sit together.

You can make reservations up to 90 days in advance at the following website:

    Golden Pass changes . . .

The composition of the GoldenPass MOB Panoramic with VIP seats will be taken out of service and completely revised on 3 September 2018. There will be regular GoldenPass MOB Panoramic with panorama carriages in 1st and 2nd class.

The GoldenPass Classic will be undergoing renovations from 8 January to 29 June. From 30 June, the three Belle Époque coaches will be put back into operation and the name of the train composition will change to GoldenPass MOB Belle Époque . During the conversion period, a scheduled train operates with conventional coaches

    Hi maizon,

Yes it is. All departures on that schedule are panoramic trains. The blue or gold highlighting denotes whether it is the newer MOB panoramic or the heritage style Belle Epoque.

You can also use the Swiss railways timetable for the specific day you want for that route. Click the train to expand the information. On September 22 for example, the 17:53 is a MOB Panoramic train.

The schedule won’t state “Golden Pass line” unfortunately.

The Golden Pass is a train route marketed as the Golden Pass ( which is between Luzern and Montreux) but with many different styles of trains running on it throughout the day.

    • Luzern to Interlaken trains are called Lucern-Interlaken Express trains and are are similar to full panoramic trains.
    • All trains between Interlaken – Zweisimmen are regional trains and not considered panoramic.
    • And then the “golden pass” panoramic trains that are marketed regionally & internationally only travel between Zweisimmen and Montreux and are noted on the timetable as MOB Panoramic or Belle Epoque. Other standard trains run on this line as well so on the timetable you want to pick a train marked with the names above to ensure you are on a panoramic train

    Yes.

Interlaken West (See) the boat dock is adjacent to Interlaken West Station. But Spiez station is about a 20 minute walk or a bus ride from Spiez Station to Spiez Schiffstation ( the boat dock).
