Hi All,
I will be staying in Wengen for 4N/5Days and am looking to explore the Bernese Oberland region. I will be traveling with a STP. This is what I’ve planned so far.
Day 1: I will be strong in Zurich around 2pm and will then take the train to Wengen. I think I will reach Wengen around 6pm. Check into the hotel and freshen up by 7pm. What do you think I can do this evening in terms of sightseeing/activities?
Day 2: Take the areal cableway to Maennlichen. Then from there go to Klein Scheidegg. Then from there take the train to Jungfraujoch. Spend time on top.
Day 3: Go to Grindelwald First. Enjoy 2 adventure rides there. Also walk the first cliff walk by Tissot.
Day 4: Spend some time in Lauterbrunnen exploring the area and the waterfall. Then go to Murren. Spend some time in Murren. Then from there go to Schilthorn.
Day 5: Check out of my hotel. Go to Internlaken and take the funicular to Harder Kulm. I also wanted to do a boat trip as I was in Interlaken. Should I do the boat trip in Lake Thun or Lake Brienz? Do I have to book the boat trip? Later this evening around 6pm I need to reach my hotel in Wengen take my luggage and catch a train to Zermatt.
Am I missing anything in the region that you think I should cover?
Do you recommend me to buy any other pass apart from STP for this trip?
Also, for these trips do I prepurchase my tickets or buy them at the counter?

Day 1 – you can walk around in Wengen in the evening, I do not think that more activities would be necessary for that day. 🙂

Day 5 – no need to book the boat trip in advance, you can read about the boat trips here: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakethun and http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakebrienz. Choose the Lake you like the most, in my opinion, both are beautiful, you cannot go wrong. 🙂
You can store your luggage also in Interalekan at the train station, there is no need to go back to Wengen just because of the luggage.Maybe on day 3, I would recommend the First – Bachalpsee hike: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/bachsee.
You can buy your train and mountain tickets on the spot. No need to reserve them in advance. make sure to check the weather first. But your Swiss Travel Pass you can buy in advance, so once you arrive in Switzerland, you can start immediately to use it and you do not have to get in line at the train station – that saves time for you. 1) Considering that Ill be doing these activities(Maennlichen, Klein Scheidegg, Schilthorn, Grindelwald First, Jungfraujoch, Murren & Harder Kulm) apart from the STP do you recommend me to buy another pass? Like the Top of Europe Pass or Jungfrau travel pass?
2) Are the boat rides in Thun or Brienz included in the STP?
3) What restaurants do guys recommend in the Bernese Oberland region? Also, please provide some budget dining options.
4) What is the best option for portable wireless data for this trip? Do you recommend a sim/or some pocket wifi device?

When you are at Grindelwald First, I would recommend the hike to Bachalpsee (only about 45 minutes each way). The hike from First to Grosse Scheidegg is also beautiful and an easy hike, however you would need to either hike back to First or catch the bus down from Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald (you would need to check the timetable, as the buses are not too frequent). This bus ride from Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald has beautiful views and it would be good to do this if you can, rather than hike the same hike back. When you visit Murren, I would recommend taking the funicular up to Allmendhubel and doing the North Face Trail hike back down to Murren. The Mountain View hike (from Allmendhubel to Grutschalp) is also very beautiful, as is the hike from Murren down to Gimmelwald. If pushed for time, you can catch the gondola from Murren to Gimmelwald, but Gimmelwald is definitely worth a visit. There are so many beautiful places to see in this area, that I would recommend starting your Day 4 as early as possible!
