Hi, we are a family of four including two teenagers travelling to Switzerland in mid-October. Would really appreciate your thoughts on a tentative itinerary. We are really keen on

    • Unesco World Heritage sights
    • some easy hiking.
    • If possible the kids would love to do some tobogganing or sledding.

Day 1 – Arrive in Zurich early morning and directly take the train to Lucerne. ( Would it be possible to go up to Mt Titlis the same day?

Day 2 – Go to St Gallen come back and leave for Bern ( Should we do only one of the two?)

Day 3 – Leave from Bern and head to Interlaken ( or should it be Grindelwald?)

Day 4 – Go to Jungfrau

Day 5 – Leave for Lausanne

Day 6 – Lake Geneva boat trip

    Day 7 -Please suggest

    Day 8 – Geneva

    Many thanks

    Hi narain, welcome to MySwissAlps!

Your itinerary is pretty full. That’s fine if you want to explore several reas of Switzerland, but note that you will have to spend quite some time packing and unpacking and checking in and out of hotels, as you’ll be switching base towns a couple of times. Alternatively you can stick to just one or two base towns. If the mountains are your main focus, I’d suggest Lucerne and the Jungfrau region, and the Golden Pass line connecting them. Both areas offer lots of scenic activities. Another advange to limiting your amount of areas is that you’re more flexible weather-wise. If you itinerary isn’t that fixed you can adapt your plans to weather circumstances.

Having said that, let’s have a look at your itinerary:

    Many thanks Annika.

Yes, I believe we are trying to pack in a bit much.

Is travel on the Golden Pass line included in the Swiss Travel Pass?

    Look forward to your response.

    Hi Narain,

Yes, the Golden Pass line is fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass – most trains are except up onto some mountains (where there is a discount on the ticket only). You can see what areas/attractions are covered by the Swiss Travel Pass here.

You can make reservations on the Golden Pass but it is extra (and I don’t think needed in October at all).
