We are planning a trip for March 2017 and want to see if this is feasible because I am unable to find on the websites information about this.

    1. Take Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano but get off in St. Moritz to spend the night and get on the train the next day to finish the trip. Is that possible?

    2. Also, we are planning to take the train from Zurich to Chur, the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano, then a train from Tirano to Milan. Should we buy these individually or buy a rail pass? If a rail pass is cheaper, is it the Euro pass? Does that work on the Bernina Express?

Thanks for any insight you are able to provide!

    Hi audra8890,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! I think it’s an excellent plan to spend the night in St. Moritz. If you could stay a few nights it would be even better.

    1. Yes, that’s possible, however it is not the Bernina Express that you would take from Chur to St. Moritz. It’s a local train that is using 95% of the Bernina Express route (until Samedan) and then proceeds to St. Moritz. The Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano by-passes St. Moritz. The next day, you can take again a local train, or a Bernina Express, to reach Tirano. These pages are useful:

    2. If Zurich to Milan is the only trip you’ll be doing a rail pass won’t save you money. You can buy point to point tickets for each day. Plus reservations if you prefer to travel on the Bernina Express. Other trains don’t require reservations.
