    Dear All,

Our initial plan was visiting in April, which didn’t happen. That time experts on this forum advised on Jungfrau region. We are family of 4 with kids aged 10 and 6. Our next plan is to travel from 1 June – 8 June. Please advice on the weather in Switzerland during the period. We will be travelling to Zurich from Dubai. We are interested in exploring most of the natural beauty (No Museums or structures). Please guide me on below points.

    1) Does it rain a lot in June? All online weather forecasts are pointing out at rain during the period.

    2) Is Jungfrau region.is good option in month of June? Don’t want to sit at hotel room with kids if it rains.

    3) If we wish to cover zurich,Lucrene, Interlaken, Geneva and most of Jungfrau region. is swiss travel pass is a good option?

    Please guide. Thank You.

    Hi Manupatil

Here is a start on answers.

<<“Does it rain a lot in June? All online weather forecasts are pointing out at rain during the period.”>>

Please read all of the information at this link:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/be sttimetovisit

Note the details under the tab for June.

    Also note carefully:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/we ather

    and,

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ab outswitzerland/nature/ climate

Just remember, weather forecasts cover a large area. And, if it will rain anywhere in the area for even a few minutes, it must be in the weather forecast. But, Switzerland is full of microclimates.

I find this site to be a good one for details:

    http://www.meteocentrale.ch/e n/europe/switzerland/w eather-wengen/details/N-3517887/

The attached image was taken in June. Most days are not that clear. We used to always go in June, and found that early June was still not the very best in the mountains. Things there are not are fully open until the middle or last part of June. The weather is getting warmer, so early June may have fewer things that have not yet opened than in those days. And, even then, we found plenty to do.

I note that the cableway from Wengen to Männlichen is starting up on about May 11. In other years it was closer to May 23rd. That ‘s a clue.

We had many beautiful days in June on many trips. It does tend to rain more than in some other months, although April is definitely wetter. Nowadays, we go in September. and, if or when we go in May, we don’t go up in the Alps.

Thee wildflowers in the meadows are very nice in June.

Just remember that when you look at historical data, you are looking at averages.

But, one year we went for two weeks in June and did not have a sunny day, except for this particular walk:

    Hello Manupatil,

Yes, the 8-day Swiss Travel Pass sounds like the best option for your plans. Please find details about how to use it, what’s included and where to buy here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass. If you want to look into alternatives then please see http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses.

Thanks Slowpoke and Arno for the details.

As per the links central Switzerland would be option in first week of June.

Can we have Lucerne as base?

What will be best location to enjoy wildflowers ?

which place to consider as base if we want to visit Titlis, Rigi and Pilatus (depending upon weather condition) ?

First week of June where can kids enjoy snow? not skiing but just normal snow activities.

    Please advice

    Hi Manupatil,

Snow options are limited in June. Mount Titlis and Jungfraujoch are good for that.

Lucerne offers a good mix of city, lake and nature nearby: http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne. Wild flowers should be all around, e.g. at Mount Rigi and many other places.

Lucerne works well for that, as Arno noted.

By the way, when your in the area, you will see the name spelled as “Luzern.” I tend to use that spelling out of habit.

    1) 3 nights in Luzern- From Zurich Airport we will go directly to Luzern – Will try to cover mountains from Luzern

    2) 2 nights in Montreux – is it good idea to stay in Montreux ? can I include Chocolate and cheese factory from here

    3) From Montreux to Zurich and 2 nights in Zurich.

    Hi Manupatil,

Your plan looks good to me; good base towns for early June. The only thing to consider is perhaps staying in Zurich for 1 night and 3 in Montreux. You can indeed visit the chocolate factory in Broc and the cheese factory in Gruyères when based in Montreux. This will take the better part of a day though, so with two nights you won’t be able to see much more in that area.

For things to do and hotel suggestions, please see:

Thanks Arno for the valuable suggestion. Do you think Swiss travel pass with Jungfraujoch Promotion will be an good option for our plan?

You’re welcome! You don’t seem to have Jungfraujoch included in your plan, nor do you stay in the area. You might be better off with one of the other promotions: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/promotio ns.

    Thanks Arno,

If Weather permits how can we proceed to Jungfraujoch? Glacier 3000 or Jungfraujoch which 1 would you suggest for June 1 week.

    Please advice

    Hi Manupatil-

if you look back at your first thread, you’ll note that Steph gave you a link for the timetable so that you can figure out travel times to locations such as you have mentioned:

    Here it is again:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

She also gave you a link for the Jungfra region.

However, this mighty be more to the point:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfraujoch

and, this thread may help for Glacier 3000.

    http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/glacier-3000-jungfraujoch

They likely have a web site, too.

In that early thread, Lucas wrote:

<<“The best places to visit in Switzerland are different for everyone – it really depends on what you and your family want to do.”>> So, it is not easy to say which is better for you and your family.

Both have plenty of things to see and do.

    Hi,

I am back with 1 more questio, my travel agent is providing accommodation at Lausanne instead of Montreux. What would you guys suggest about Lausanne ? is it well connected with nearby tourist attractions? How can I travel from Luzern? Please advice

    Hi Manupatil,

Lausanne is only 20 minutes from Montreux, so logistically both are fine. I would prefer Montreux myself. You can compare both towns here:

You can get to either town via the Golden Pass line, but there’s a quicker route too if you prefer that (see the timetable link of Slowpoke).

I had the impression you were planning this trip yourself. If so, then you do not need a travel agent to book hotels. The above Lausanne and Montreux pages offer hotel suggestions as well, and you can easily book those yourself.
