Hi,

I am planning to visit Jungfraujoch and Lucerne in the second week of October. I will be coming from Germany , planning to stay in Grindelwald/Wengen/Lauterbrunnen/Interlaken, and planning to visit Jungfraujoch (good morning ticket). I will be going to Lucerne the same day evening and return back to germany the next evening. Could you please help me in addressing the below queries.

1. Is it worth to go to Jungfraujoch during the mid of October? I know it would depend on the climate on the particular day, but still I would like to have some suggestions here.

2. Which is the most inexpensive place to stay in order to go to Jungfraujoch other than Interlaken?

3. Which is the best mode of transport to reach Lucerne from Jungfraujoch?

4. Can we expect snow in Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen in October?

5. In case of bad weather, what are the other activities to do in Jungfraujoch area ?I am not into any adventurous activities , but more like hiking or site seeing.

There is a body of opinion that suggests that Jungfraujoch is not worth visiting at any time, as it has become overcommercialised and is a very expensive train ride considering much of the railway is in a tunnel inside the mountain. It is cheaper to view the famous 3 mountains from the lower villages and Mürren

2) nowhere in Switzerland is really any more ‘inexpensive’ than any other. Just like any country the type of accommodation (eg bunk bed in a hostel versus 4 star hotel) and the type of view from the room (eg looks onto the back of another property or a car park versus a panoramic view of the Jungfrau) in most cases dictates the price

3) The jungfrau railways run from Interlaken Ost, which is also the starting point for the ZentralBahn railway (Luzern – Interlaken Express) over the Brünig pass to Luzern

Trains, or helicopter, although the latter is more expensive, and a ‘copter might not be permitted to land at the Jungfraujoch, and you would have to descend a bit first. 😉
