I plan on overnighting in the Montreux area and then visit Chateau Chillon in the morning. Upon completion my destination is the Geneva train station.

I want to find boat transportation from Montreux to Geneva and have been able to find one. I have checked this website and others but cannot find a schedule or rates.

As an alternative, a boat from Montreux fo a mid-lake location where I can catch a train would do. I have also searched for this and came up empty handed.

    Thanks

    H i jerrys-

I forgot your travel dates. Lake boats on Lake Geneva ( Lac Leman) have a very thin schedule in Winter,. and an not-generous one other times.

At any time of year, you may end up walking or busing to Montreux main station on bus 201 plus bus 206.

Rockoyster, with his usual alacrity, has given you the right link.

    Hi Jerrys,

As always, use the SBB timetable – I find it easier than websites or PDFs of timetable. http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

Enter the boat docks: Montreux (lac) to Genève-Mt-Blanc (lac)
Once you hit search and are on the SBB site, hit advanced search and de-select all types except ships. hit search again.

Are you traveling in the summer? If not you may not have any luck. Try a train to Lausanne then boat to Geneva.

    Hi Jerrys,

The above replies have probably helped you out already, but I don’t think there are direct boats from Montreux to Geneva. It’s a big lake and such a trip would easily take 4 hours I think. You could take a boat to Lausanne (Ouchy) and continue by train from there. Or train to Lausanne, subway down to Ouchy and a boat from there.

    Thanks to all for replies.

Starting to make progress. I do have a question about Lucas’s post where he says to hit “advanced search” as I was unable to find that option. I had looked at SBB previous but chose the main city location and did not select the ‘lac’ one.

If I may add something new here but related. If coming from Zermatt by rail if I get off at Chateau Chillon is there baggage storage at the station or at the Chateau. Also how much to allow for the Chateau?

I plan then to take the ferry from Chateau to Lausanne and then train to Geneva

Yes the boat is not direct to Geneva but the timetable will show you.

The page with the advanced search is this one: http://www.sbb.ch/en/buying/p ages/fahrplan/fahrplan .xhtml (it is what will pop up after searching the timetable on our link that I gave you. Type in the stations exactly as I wrote (lac) and all. 🙂

The station for the castle (https://www.myswissalps.com/chilloncastle): Veytaux-Chillon does not have lockers but I believe members have left their luggage at the castle before entry…might want to email them to reconfirm.

there is a link here to search SBB’s website to find stations and what they offer on-site: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/practical/luggage

As with many things in Switzerland, it is easy to use….once you figure it out. 😂

    Hi Jerrys-

The timetable defaults to the fastest route, as noted on the opening page with instructions here:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

Since the ships are rarely the fastest route, it is necessary to force the timetable to display ships, as noted on that page, toward the lower right.

The attached image shows the relevant page as a screen grab from the SBB timetable.

It puzzles me that you could not find it.

Glad you got your answer and hope that there is a boat that meets your needs.
