Hi Jindalvn,
Welcome to MySwissAlps.
Taking the Glacier Express from Zermatt to Chur/St Moritz is a great and relaxing way to experience the Swiss Alps. It’s a long train journey though, about 8 hours to complete the entire journey. If you have a tight schedule, you can also do the trip in short sections, as explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere
If you don’t like sitting in a train for a long time, travelling from Zermatt to Montreux might be a good idea. In Montreux, you can hop on the Golden Pass panoramic train to Zweisimmen, which takes only 2 hours.
You can find more sightseeing options below:
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Anna

Jindalvn,
Sounds like you have a good plan. I usually fly in and out of Zurich and prefer to stay in Lucerne rather than Zurich.
On you question about doing Glacier Express or heading to Montreux, in my opinion you can’t go wrong with either. One of the things I like to point out with Montreux is the connection to the rock band Queen. A lot of people I talk too about Montreux don’t realize the connection. There is a statue of Freddie Mercury on the waterfront which has an amazing walking promenade and there is also a small Queen museum inside the casino that is free to visit. I believe the museum takes takes the place of the recording studio Queen use to own and where they recorded 6 or 7 of their albums back in the day.
As Anna mentioned you can also catch the Golden Pass train from Montreux on your journey back to Zurich.
Enjoy!
Steve

Thanks for your input Steve. I agree that both options would be nice. And yes, I too appreciate the “presence” of Queen in Montreux :-).
