    hello

I would like to hike the Bernina Pass between Alp Grum and Ospizio Bernina on 30/08/17. Problem is I will have a suitcase. Are there lockers at either station or close by? If not, any ideas what to do with luggage?

I also want to get the famous picture of the train and Morteratsch Glacier while rounding Montebello curve while travelling from Tirano to St Moritz. I plan to sit in the back of the train on the left side. What town or landmark should I look for to get ready with my camera? I’m guess a regional train will allow for a better picture than the BEX due to the closed window issue.

    Thanks

The nearest lockers are at Poschiavo, and there are no Express Luggage options between Tirano and St Moritz unfortunately.

    Bernina Suot railway station.

Possibly. According to the timetable, departures from Tirano on 30 August at 09:40 and 11:40 have open panoramic cars, denoted in the timetable by “AW” for Aussichtswagen.

    Hi Traveler,

Maybe you could talk the Hotel Alp Grum into looking after your suitcase for you in exchange for, say, staying there a night? 😇

    Alpenrose:

How did you find out which stations have lockers? This is a general question regarding the entire train system, not just Rhaetian railways.

    Rockoyster:

If Alp Grum were a prettier village, I’d stay there in a heart beat 😀

    Thank you both!!

    Hi Traveler,

If you use this link http://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/railway-stations.html to search for Alp Grüm and Pontresina you will see the difference between somewhere that does and somewhere that doesn’t have luggage (lockers or left) services.

Oh, and on your question about the Montebello Curve, did you know the entire Bernina Express route is on Google Streetview? Here, for example, is the Bernina Suot Station mentioned by Alpenrose – https://goo.gl/NzNUiW

Or this one going round the bend! https://goo.gl/cAg6ee

And here’s one for Alpenrose – the view down to Lago di Poschiavo from Alp Grüm – https://goo.gl/YGi2yW 🤓

I need to correct this! There are no luggage lockers at Poschiavo, but you can leave luggage at the counter during opening hours for CHF 5. Opening hours are Monday-Sunday 5:50 am-7:30 pm.

The Rhaetian Railway also has details of their own stations:

Excellent! I’ll be hoping to get a photo of that lovely view when I am next in the area!
