Hi LawWS,
Welcome to MySwissAlps! Pilatus is closer to Lucerne, so I would start with that on day 1. Yes, a stroll in Lucerne on day 2 should be possible. Please find more details here:

What do you mean by “cover.”

Slowpoke – I would say “cover” entails spending enough quality time for appreciation but not over-staying

I think that Arno’s advice is consistent with that.
However, there are enough options at Titlis to fill a day and then some if you choose to do the available hikes and activities.
And, Luzern and it’s environs have a variety of options that can more than fill several days, if they interest you. When cloudy weather or thunderstorms prevents a worthwhile trip up on a high mountain, they can be a good backup plan. High level clouds don’t interfere with a lake boat journey.
The timetable

can let you know if a boat ride to Alpnachstad to catch the cograil will fit in your afternoon, or if you should use the train. I’ve heard of long delays for the cograil in August, making the cableway from Kriens a better option on weekends then. Don’t know about July. Or, it might make a quicker return, even if you go up via the cograil.
