Hi hi,

Good day to u.

I would like to find out Lucerne to Milano Centrale (Italy) how does the Swiss Travel Pass work.

I will b holding a Swiss travel pass (Flexi). I know this Pass covers me from Lucerne to Chiasso, but from Chiasso I will need to get another train ticket till Milano Centrale (Italy). Questions I would like to ask:

1. Does seat reservation is a MUST especially from Arth-Goldau to Chiasso?

2. From SBB Website, there 2 different of seat reservations offer:

a) point to point class upgrade $49,

b) Supersaver class upgrade at $34

May I know what are different between these 2? Refer to screen shot I hv attached.

3. Will there be seat available if I do not make any seat reservation from Lucerne to Chiasso? Due to long journey, i preferred to have a seat.

I ever asked before but just want to b 100% sure that I do not require to change train from Lucerne to Milano Centrale (Italy), correct?

Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jenner,

Let’s look into your questions:

1. Seat reservation is optional but not required for Arth-Goldau to Chiasso. You can see this in the Swiss timetable; see the paragraph “Seat reservations” at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.
2. Your screenshot shows ticket options, not seat reservations. You don’t need either of these tickets. Your Swiss Travel Pass Flex (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex) covers you up to Chiasso and all you need in addition is a ticket Chiasso-Milan: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy. The tickets in your screenshot are meant for people who don’t have a pass. Class upgrades are for travelers with a 2nd class pass/ticket who would like to travel part of a journey in 1st class. You can read about normal tickets and Supersaver tickets at https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland, but again you don’t need them.
3. You usually don’t have to worry about getting a seat. The timetable shows the expected occupancy for each connection by the icons consisting of three person-figures. If all three of them are in red, occupancy will probably be high. And some EC trains require reservation for the Italian leg of your journey anyway (see the timetable explanation under #1). In such cases you can make a reservation for the entire journey from Lucerne just as well, if you prefer having a guaranteed seat.
