Hi. I’ll be going to Switzerland in early Dec. I’ve got the outline of my trip with hub and 2 teenagers, which i had planned with input from you guys.

Fly into Zurich and go straight to Lucerne. 2 nights in Lucerne, then 2 nights in Wengen, 3 nights in Zermatt

I’m planning the details of each section of the trip. For now, my question is about a day trip to Mt Rigi. My plan is

    Lucerne – Viztnau (boat),

Viztnau – Rigi Kulm (cogwheel train)

Rigi Kulm – Rigi Kaltbad (hike)

Rigi Kaltbad – Weggis (cable car)

    Weggis – Lucerne (boat)

Frankly that looks a long journey and a bit tiring to me. I read somewhere that tickets for all these modes of transport can be bought at one go. Is that correct? From where we first depart by boat from Lucerne?

    Hi Bernielee68,

If you don’t have a rail pass like the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) that covers that trip then yes, you could buy tickets in one go (I’d get them at Lucerne train station, 5 minutes from boat dock).

I am pretty sure they won’t sell you tickets all the way to Rigi at the boat dock.

    Hi Lucas,

I intend to buy the Swiss Half Fare card based on my calculations so far. So from what you know, i will have to get the tickets for the boat rides, cogwheel, cable car, etc separately when i reach each point? Is it a breeze usually i.e. just next to each other and no long queues?

Or would you suggest another route at that time of the year? Thanks.

Oh sorry, or did you mean i can get the tickets at one go from the Lucerne train station?

Then i just use my Swiss Half Fare card to get the discounts?

Yes, just pop into the Lucerne train station and either at the SBB office or at a ticket machine you can buy your ticket(s) to Rigi all in one go and get 50% off for all of them with your Swiss Half Fare Card. http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard

The office is probably easier for you to make sure you get the right tickets for boat etc. 🙂

    Thanks!

I’ll post questions on the next part of the trip when I’m ready.
