Lugano to Lucerne April 17 on Gotthard Express

    My family of 5 is traveling from Lugano to Lucerne April 17. We have been told that the Gottard Panorma doesn’t run that day. We were hoping to take a scenic train. Could someone suggest the best train to take that day? Would you get reservations, etc?

    Hi Chadh,

    The Gotthard Panorama Express operates on weekends and holidays only starting April 14; however April 17 is a holiday so it should be running that day. Click the link above for information on this route and how to buy tickets and/or reservations. The train starts in Bellinzona however so you have to get there first.

    You can also take local trains along the exact same route as the GPE as well. Just be sure to travel on the regional trains via Göschenen and Airolo, not the fast direct trains. The fast trains cross a long tunnel and you won’t see anything of the remarkable scenery. You can search for train timetables and connections here.
