    Hi,

Has anyone been on this lake cruise and how do you like it? I am thinking about doing this lunch cruise as a back up plan in case my mountain trips need to be canceled.

Also, is it mandating that we order lunch from their menu and not bring our own food?

    Thanks

Mittagsschiff is German for Lunch Cruise it’s not a destination. They are mandating you order from their menu because that is their business model.

There are heaps of regular boats and paddle steamers plying Lake Lucerne. I’d recommend you just use the regular timetable and go wherever the mood moves you. See http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakelucerne.

Hi LightPackerC! There are plenty of boats crossing Lake Lucerne, many of them having restaurants. If you’re in a restaurant you should order from the offered menu. It’s a very relaxing experience, enjoying Swiss cuisine and admiring the landscape at the same time. Outside of the restaurant you’re allowed to eat your own food. Rockoyster already directed you the right page. You’ll find a link to the Lake Lucerne boat timetable under “More on other websites” on the “Route” tab.

Last October, we took several boat trips on Lake Lucerne since we were staying in Lucerne most of the time. We never actually ate on any of the boats but instead would get off at whatever town caught our fancy for lunch, ate at a waterfront outdoor cafe, and simply caught the next boat, or train, back to Lucerne. Very relaxing, and gave us the opportunity to visit several places and try a variety of restaurants, including the Waldstatterhoff in Brunnen and Oliv in Weggis.
