Looking for some general guidance on staying in Lucerne with a family of 5 adults for one night in May before catching a flight home from Zurich the next day. Looking for our best deal on comfortable and clean accommodations but does not have to be fancy for one night. Would like convenience to train for trip into town and then out of town for airport the next morning however. Basic information about training from here to Zurich for flight would be helpful. Which train to take, how long should we allow to get to airport for our flight back to the U.S.? Lastly do swiss trains have dining cars?

    Thanks, Lori

    Hi mommamenges,

We have a list of recommended hotels in Luzern listed here (along with distance to rail station and other handy information).

As for taking the train to Zurich airport, you can use the Swiss railways timetable here to see the options for your date and preferred time of travel.
As you will see on the timetable, trains from Luzern to Zurich airport take about an hour and a bit – some are direct and some require a transfer at Zurich main train station.

Depending on the train you are on there may be a restaurant car (denoted with a knife and fork image on the timetable) and/or an employee that walks up and down the train with a snack cart.
