Luzerne – Fluelen – Rigi good idea?

We plan on going around Luzerne on September 23, 2017 while maximizing our Swiss Pass – would there be enough time for us to ride the boat to Fluelen & then visit/hike at Rigi in a day?

We may ride the boat from Luzerne to Fluelen – which would take around around 3 hours, and then take the train to Arth-Goldauor on our way to Rigi?

Or we may ride the boat and get off at Weggis or Vitznau (instead of Fluelen) to get to Rigi earlier?

Which would be more worthwhile to do? take the whole boat ride to Fluelen but have less time in Rigi or take the boat just to Vitznau (what will we miss on the boat ride from Vitznau to Fluelen) so we can get to Rigi and still have time to hike?

Or is this itinerary too ambitious?

    Hi babees726,

Your plan is certainly doable, in one longer day. Use the Swiss railways timetable to help you figure out how much time will be needed to do everything. It is quite common to take the boat to Vitznau and then up to Rigi – so if you want more time on the boat (the weather is nice!) and have a full day you could go on to Fluelen!

You also don’t have to decide until the ‘day of’ before deciding how to get to Mt. Rigi.
