I am interred in hearing from hikers who have done the Zarnez-Lais da Macun-Lavin hike. The descriptions make the trip sound very difficult and yet, as it seems popular, it must also be achievable for good hikers. Is it correct that it is about 8 hours. The description also warns about not attempting this hike if you have a fear of heights. How accurate is that. Lastly, I read that there is a taxi from Zernez and it goes up to the 2200 ft. level. How much does this cut off the time of the hike.

1. It is both difficult and achievable for good hikers. The uphill trail from Zernez is uphill, indeed. 1200 meterelevation to be overcome. Be trained.

2. About 8 hours: yes. About means more, or less, depending on you…

3. Fear of heights: could be. Look at the map (link below)

4. Taxi: For the first 600 meters of altitude difference from Zernez to Plan Sech (Waldgrenze), a taxi can be arranged by appointment (check with the Zernez tourist office). Cuts the uphill time by half.

Take enough drinking water (2 liters) for the whole trip. Think it over if the weather conditions are not good (rain, fog, or too hot; of course not when there is snow). Have good mountaineering boots, if you use hiking poles take them along. Pack light.
