We are staying in Milan in December 2019 and wish to travel on the Bernina express. Do I go from Milan to Tirano? And then is the Bernina express caught from the same train station? Not sure if I am missing a step.

Trenord regional train Milano Centrale – Tirano (journey 2 hours 30 minutes). The Bernina railway platforms are close to the Trenord platforms at Tirano.

Connecting trains from Milano are shown on the Swiss official timetable PDF:

Remember that you don’t have to travel on the Bernina Express to enjoy the Bernina Railway – the regional trains are just as good

    Hi Nanette

The two stations in Tirano are indeed adjacent, and both are small terminal stations. If you have a little time, there is a pleasant café on the Italian terminus. There are good toilet facilities – free last time I was there – on the Bernina station, and a helpful ticket office / enquiry desk.

There are very good facilities such as restaurants and shops close by if you have a little longer in Tirano. It’s a pleasant smallish town. You’ll love the way the Bernina line train clangs its way through the streets when leaving Tirano.

    Hope that helps

    John

even more fun just up the line at Le Prese where the train goes along the main street tight up to restaurants, hotels, homes etc and really holds up the traffic as the the street is also the main road right through the middle of town
