Milan to Lausanne with the Swiss Travel Pass

We have purchased Swiss Travel Passes, but how do we apply that discount on the SBB site when buying tickets from Milan to Lausanne – preferring to take the Eurocity train without changing trains?

I did read somewhere that applying the GA discount on the SBB site would work, but can someone confirm that is the case?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi SteveB,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

If you have the Swiss Travel Pass, you only need to get a ticket from Milan to the Swiss border. Once in Switzerland, there is no need for tickets where the Swiss Travel Pass is valid. If a conductor comes and request for a ticket, you just need to show him or her your valid railpass.

For details on how to use the Swiss Travel Pass, please read this: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse

    Thanks!

Is the option to book all the way through still possible on SBB site, using the GA reduction in lieu of a Swiss Travel Pass” reduction?

    Hi SteveB,

If purchasing the ticket online through the SBB website, I would just key in my route as Milan – Chiasso (or whichever border town you are travelling through). You don’t need seat reservations on Swiss trains except if you are travelling on certain panoramic trains.

But yes, in lieu of Swiss Travel Pass you can use the ‘GA reduction’ to apply for discounts when you buy the train tickets online.

Be sure to read how to travel by Swiss rail, here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/howtotravel

    See “passholder Fare” at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.

You can claim GA reduction (equivalent to STP) for Domodossola to Lausanne leg, yes.
