    Hi guys, appreciate some help/input.

Details of my trip: 16 days. Landing in Milan, planning to travel up to Switzerland and then back to Milan (return flight). total of 3 pax. Objective is mainly to sightsee.

    Need some suggestions:-

    1. TRANSPORT: Do you recommend renting a car throughout the trip (ie: from Milan-Swiss-Milan)? OR, renting the car for only a few days to cover the more remote areas & use the rails for transits between big cities? Or is swiss do-able without a rental car? Do car rentals allow inter-country ?

2.PLACE TO COVER – Current rough skeleton of the sequence is: MILAN > Lake Como> Lake Orta> Matterhorn > Interlaken area > interlaken > Lucerne > gonna skip Zurich maybe >. drive towards East Austria (Innsbruck)> then down to northen Italy (St Magdalena) /RittnerHon/Alp de Siusi/Dolomites area>VENICE > back to milan!

    3. Any comments/feedback/suggestions on the above route?

    4. Which part of Switzerland should I stay in that is easier to do day trips out of it? Don’t really want to keep switching accommodations.

feel free to drop any comment, not really familiar with Europe, first time travelling!

    Hi nuaxiem,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

    1. Renting a car to travel across multiple European countries is certainly possible. But you might also want to consider getting a multi-country railpass and take advantage of the extensive transport network. The pros and cons of cars vs trains are explained in detail here: http://www.myswissalps.com/carversustrain

    2. Your current travel sequence is doable. Take note that some destinations in Switzerland are car-free. For instance to visit the Matterhorn in Zermatt, you will have to park in Täsch and take the train to Zermatt.

    3. Here are few samples of scenic driving trips across the Swiss Alps here: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/scenictrips/car. Hope this gives you more ideas for your itinerary.

    4. Most travellers choose to stay and explore the Bernese Oberland. You can find more options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/wheretogo/towns

Perhaps this will get you started. Let us know if you need more information.

    Regards,

    Anna
