    Hello,

We will be visiting Lucerne on November 7 and plan to enjoy the Mount Pilatus experience. I’m a little confused about where the journey will start. TripAdvisor includes this information: The gondolas are closed for maintenance from 22 October to 9 November 2018; access from Alpnachstad only.

Does this mean we take the cogwheel train up and down?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Evelyn

Hi Evelyn and welcome to MySwissAlps!

That’s exactly correct, you won’t be able to go up via the cable car from Kriens due to annual maintenance.

Details on how to get to Pilatus can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/pi latus/gettingthere and you can use the Swiss railways timetable to plan the trip here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable (it won’t give you any route that is closed for maintenance as well just as an FYI).

Thank you for your prompt reply. This is very helpful.

I have another question. We will be purchasing train tickets from Basel to Lucerne and return, as well as the Mount Pilatus tour and local train/tram travel. Does it make sense to purchase the Half Fare ticket? We will be in Lucerne and Basel only for four days.

Thank you again for your help.

Possibly. It might just be worth the costs for those few trips.

You can read our page here on how to choose the best train pass and it will help you do the math to compare costs (with a spreadsheet): http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass
