    Hi everyone,

Making base as Lucerne ( B&B at Sachlsen), is it possible to cover Mount Titlis and Mount Pilatus on the same day? Or Can we combine Mount Rigi with either Mount Titlis or Mount Pilatus? Basically, would like to cover 2 mountain tops in a single day. My trip is scheduled in October, 2017

    Regards,

    Hi DJIndia,

From Sachlsen I think visiting Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Titlis would be easiest for you. You can search the train timetables to plan your trip here.

Either way it will be a long day as it will be about 2 hours between the two mountain tops, plus time spend at the top (usually a couple hours as well).

The Pilatus cable car from Kriens is closed from 23 October until 10 November 2017 for maintenance, but if you are there during those dates, you can go both ways by cogwheel train.

Thanks a lot for your response. I will be in Luzern (Sachlsen) from 6th till 9th October and that is when I am planning to visit Mt Titlis, Mt Pilatus and Mt Rigi. So I am hoping that the cable car in Pilatus wont be closed.

I will be continuing to stay in Interlaken or nearby areas till Oct 12th. Not fixed on the Itinerary and accommodation.

Also, could you advise me on the weather part? Should I be worried with rains/bad weather etc? I will be in Switzerland from 6th till 12th October altogether.

The weather can be chilly and rainy in lower altitudes and quite cold when you are up in the mountains at that time of year. You may not get any rain at all if you are lucky but the mountains will be quite cold – so be prepared for it!

You can see what to do and a list of hotels in the Jungfrau region here. Just click on the town name to see more information on activities there and hotel options.

    Lucas,

Okay, thanks. Looks like I have planned my visit at a tricky time.

The mountains remains closed if the weather is bad right? Does it remain closed if it rains?

Am just worried on how should I plan myself in case the weather is bad.

    Thanks,

No the mountains remain open if it is cold or rainy – if it gets very very windy they may close the gondolas going up for part of a day – doesn’t happen very often. You just don’t want to go if it is cloudy and stormy as it will ruin the views.

It really isn’t a bad time to visit – these are worse case scenario’s to be prepared for. No one can tell you what the weather will be when you get here – could be lovely and 18 degrees…could be 5 degrees and raining. Chances are somewhere in the middle for the first 2 weeks of October.

I had fantastic weather in October up in the mountains near Davos – Just be prepared with warm clothes and a rain coat.
The mountain tops can be below 0 degrees in the summer as well!
