Hi, A couple of questions please….. we are planning to hire electric mountain bikes for one day next year (Sat 29th May) in Grindelwald. Our route would be to cycle up to Klein Scheddegg then down to Wengen and then maybe down to Lauterbrunnen and back along the road to Grindelwald. My questions are …. will that route be open ok at that time of year and finally if we wanted to take the cable car back to Grindelwald from Wengen instead of cycling could we do that with the bikes ?

    Thanks very much

    Happy Pants

    Hi Happy Pants,

Most of the bike routes above Grindelwald would only be accessible in June, so I think Kleine Scheidegg would be a no go in May. Here is the link to the bike routes in and around Grindelwald, including details when each route is open: grindelwald.swiss/fileadmin/bikearena/Bike_Fahrradkarte_Grindelwald.pdf

    Hope that helps!

    Hi again,

It is possible to take your bikes with you on the train and cable cars at extra costs. However some mountain and cable railways do not allow you to take your bikes with you. If this is the case, the best thing to do is make arrangement to return your bikes in Wengen.

More info about which mountain and cable railways allow bike transport here: jungfrauregion.swiss/en/summer/see-and-do/activities/mountainbike/bike-transport/

    Regards,

    Anna

I would stick to lower altitudes for biking and take the train if you want to go up to Kleine Scheidegg. The road route Lauterbrunnen – Grindelwald is via Zweilütschinen (18km and often busy)

    Hi 1960man

Are you able to put your bikes on the train to Kleine Scheidegg from Grindelwald then cycle back down ?
