mountains in switzerland morning or afternoon?

Planning to combine half day mountains and half day city tours / boat tours or scenic train rides as combo almost everyday in May 2019. Thinking, whether first to do city tours or fist to do mountain tours?

Points of interest with Tell pass: Mt. Pilatus, Mt. Tiltis, Stoos, Mt. Rigi etc combining with one of these: Lucerne city tours, Golden pass to Interlaken, Gotthard Panorama express, Stanserhorn etc.

    Thanks a bunch.

In late May 2017 we did the mountains in the morning. Almost every afternoon, that year there were a series of thunderstorms late afternoon.

One morning we went to Pilatus and it was perfectly clear. The next day we went to Rigi and it was perfectly clear but we could see Pilatus was shrouded in cloud.

Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and be flexible.

Last Tuesday a few of us went up the Niesen, which is just south of Spiez on Lake Thoune. By about 1 PM most of the fog had burned off and we had spectacular views in every direction. However, please note that for photography, the further away the subject is, the more haze will appear, even on a wonderful sunny afternoon. I attach a photo looking off towards the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, and also one that shows what the path looks like on the walk down from the top, Niesen Kulm, to the the “middle” station at Schwandegg. Very steep and not for the faint of heart. I also attach a screen clip from one of the movies I did while at the top. You can see more clouds off in the distance to the north.

As Rockoyster has stated, “keep an eye on the weather forecasts”, and the best place to do this is at MétéoSuisse (in German, French, Italian, and English). Here you can zoom in on the part of Switzerland you are interested in and see the weather for today and the days to come. Below that you can enter the name of a place or its 4 digit postal code to get local weather and predictions. Hover your cursor over any symbol you are not sure of and it will tell you what it stands for.
