We will be arriving in Zurich and then taking the train to Lucerne October 27th. Our plan for Saturday October 28th is to take the boat from Lucerne -> Alpnachstad and then take the cogwheel to the top of Pilatus.

    1. Some of the schedule says “Daily from beginning of season to 28 October”- does this include October 28th?

    2. Is there any hiking we will be able to do on Mt. Pilatus at the end of October?

    3. I believe that the Swiss pass will cover the boat ride and any buses/trains we need to take and will give us 50% off cogwheel?

    Thank you!

    Sara

Hi sarab1020 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    1. The cogwheel train is operating until Nov.20 but the cable cars are closed for maintenance (some people take one up and the other down. You will have to do a round-trip on the cogwheel train).
    2. There are some hiking options at the top of Mt. Pilatus yes. Whether they are accessible when you go will depend on the weather at the time – most are open until late October in general.
    3. In 2017 the entire trip to Mt. Pilatus is covered 100% by the Swiss Travel Pass.

    Hi Lucas,

thank you you for you quick response. One more question. We will be traveling from the Art Deco hotel in Lucerne to the hotel Honegg in in Ennetburgen on Saturday October 28th. What is the best way to travel there, train/bus/boat?

    thank you

Also were figuring out if it makes sense to get a Swiss pass as we will only be in switzerland for a weekend.

Is is the cost of a cogwheel 72$? And is the boat ride from Luzern to alpnachstad $27?

You are in for a treat at the Villa Honegg – enjoy!

You can take public transit from the Art Deco hotel to the Ennetbürgen, Post (bus stop). You do connect form the train and then on to a bus. They have a shuttle bus that can pick you up there. Just use the Swiss railways timetable and enter the Art Deco hotel address and then Ennetbürgen, Post (as the destination).

The other option would be a taxi to either the hotel or the Ennetbürgen, Post bus stop. for the shuttle. Taxi’s are quite expensive just as an FYI.

Yes, those are the prices for Mt. Pilatus (round-trip) and the boat trip to Alpnachstad. All prices are listed on the timetable (the first price is the half fare price so you have to click on the purchase tab and indicate you have no rail pass to get the true price).

You may benefit from the Swiss Half Fare Card but only if you plan another trip or two that weekend. If that is your only planned trip then a rail pass won’t make sense I think.

    HI –

we are planning to visit Mt Pliatus in Dec (first time in Switzerland) after staying 3 nights in Lausanne and wanted to know what the weather is like generally around that time as I plan to book 1 night at the hotel Pilatus Kulm – (30th Dec) and then on 31st leave for Lausanne. I dont want to be stranded there and would like to know if there is travel from Mt Pilatus to Lucern station to get the train back to Lausanne?

thanks for any tips and advice.

Hi SublimeC and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, there is a gondola (two) operating to take you up to Pilatus Kulm from the town of Kriens (from there it is a bus to Lucerne). Use the timetable and enter your details to find the schedule for Lucerne to Pilatus Kulm.

The weather at Pilatus should be quite cold (maybe 0 degrees , maybe -10) and probably a decent amount of snow in late December – but it is always hard to predict the weather. 🙂
