Hi Genovesen,
Welcome to MySwissAlps!
That’s a tough choice. Each mountain can be done in one afternoon. I would recommend doing a bit of research on both mountains and see which one appeals most to your group. Here are the links:
You can use the SBB timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable) to plan your journey.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Anna

Be guided by the weather. It is not uncommon for Rigi to be clouded over while Pilatus is clear or vice versa.
Also watch the times for the last train/cable car down from the mountain. You can most likely do Pilatus quicker than Rigi although if you get a direct train from Zurich to Arth-Goldhau you can be at Rigi Kulm in just over an hour and a half.

Thank you both so much! Great advice and tips. I’m so glad I joined this group. 🙂

Taken from the link on Pilatus, provided by Anna:
Dates of operation
You can reach Mount Pilatus all year round, but sometimes only one route is operational. The cogwheel train from Alpnachstad to the top operates from early or mid May to 15 November 2020. The cableway from Kriens to the top does not operate from 19 October to 6 November 2020. Please check again later for further dates.
