Hi, We are couple travelling for 4 days ( almost) reaching Zurich (morning October 11 leaving evening of 14th oct.)

One of us is fearful of too much height and not sure of gondola ride heights. will be pretty happy doing more of cogwheel and other train rides and may be an hour or so of hiking on foot. So please advise which mountain will be better for us? I dont want to miss on the beauty due to the fear of heights.

First two days base is Lucerne & last wo days base is Zurich. Which mountain should we visit for scenes considering height too ?

    Thanks

Hi Wadhwa and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I would look at either Pilatus or Rigi as both can be reached by cogwheel train.

Have a read here on how to reach either mountain:

Both mountains have two way of reaching them.usually people often go up one way and down the other (cogwheel and cable car). In your case you can just go up and down the same way.

Hello, we are in Switzerland now and currently in Wengen. We were in Lucerne for four days. I would recommend Rigi over Pilatus. Pilatus is beautiful and the view cannot be beat, but it is a gondola up and once at top you only take pictures if you are afraid of heights. There are a few areas to walk up to and even a walk around the side and down but to get back to top would be scary if you are afraid. Mt Rigi is better option for you. First you take a boat ride across the lake and that is very beautiful. Then you take an open air cog train up. Again, stunning views! At the top you have many options – you can have a picnic, you can take short hikes around the top or longer hikes all the way down. We zig zagged down for a few hours with stops along the way for a snack or two. We then took the gondola down rather than the train but if you are afraid of heights this would be scary but the view is unbelievable. Here are some pictures of Rigi and Pilatus from a few days ago.

    Hi Munichmaria1,

Note that Pilatus also has a cogwheel train up (closed over the winter, but currently operating until November).

The pictures need to be under 1mb to upload properly – sorry about that restriction. We’d love to see them if you can!
