Hi everyone …. I am doing a short trip of 7days trying to cover Montreux and Interlaken from 29Oct-04Nov.

29Oct – arriving Zurich airport will be taking train straight to Montreux and staying 3nights there. Planning to stroll from hotel to Chateau Chillon and time permits will walk to Villeneuve.

30Oct – will do a day trip to chamonix

31Oct – vineyard walk through the terraces of Lavaux Unesco

01Nov – going to Interlaken west by the GoldenPass MOB

02Nov – hiking the alps from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg to Gimmelwald to Mürren

03Nov – paragliding in the morning and leaving in the late afternoon for Zurich

04Nov – departing

any suggestion? Or should I make any changes to my itinerary

If you have time you should take a boat trip on Lake Geneva: http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakegeneva. The Lavaux vineyards are lovely from the boat.

Although seat reservations are not compulsory on the Golden Pass but we recommend it on the Zweisimmen to Montreux leg: http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass/tickets.

As you are traveling a lot by trains, you should consider purchasing a rail pass. Hi Yljolene-

You can do the easy walks near Lauterbrunnen that you describe on 02 November, but many of the cableways in the area stop running for maintenance beginning on the 28th of October. The one to Schilthorn is open.

So, you can go up to Mürren by that route as well and even Schilthorn f you wish.

The cograil train between Wengen, Kleine Scheideg, Grindelwald runs every day of the year.

Thanks for all the tips…. but is it possible for me to hike from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg to Gimmelwald to Mürren … I know it’s going to take me at least 6hrs to hike. Is it difficult for a first timer ? Early nov would it be advisable for me to just walk since some of cable cars are under maintenance. Or any better suggestion?

The cableways to/from Stechelberg to Mürren will be running on November 2. The next set of cableways, from Mürren up to Schilthorn, will be out of service: https://www.myswissalp s.com/schilthorn/getti ngthere.

Use the timetable to learn what is running. Put in a journey. If the service is not running at your chosen time, the timetable will let you know.

shows that the climb from Stechelberg at elevation 862 meters (specificallz at Lengwald where the cableway has its valley station) on foot to Mürren is a climb of 532 meters to Gimmelwald at 1394 meters, plus the further climb to Mürren at 1638 meters of 244 meters. Total=776 meters.

The trail (via Im Tal) is marked in yellow, which means it does not require special gear. I’d wear boots or sturdy hiking shoes and have a hiking staff. If you are not fit or used to climbing at elevations ending up at almost a mile high, you will pant a lot and go slowly.

Personally, I’d walk to Stechelberg and ride the cableway to either Gimmelwald ) if you want to hike up from there, or, I’d ride it all the way to Mürren.

Mürren is a population center. It will always have access to Lauterbrunnen and the trains. If the route through Stecheleberg is closed, the route through Grütschalp will be open, and vice versa.
