We will be in Switzerland April 23-27, 2019. We were going to do 2 days in Grindenwald to explore Schlithorn and Jungfraujoch but noticed that they have had access closed at the end of April this year and previous years. Is this the case every year? Should we go to Zermat instead and then 2 dyas in Lucerne. We are traveling by train! Any advice is appreciated

Hi Hedvig and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Jungfraujoch is open every day of the year but most mountains, like Schilthorn do close for maintenance periods on the off season (April and November typically for a couple weeks). Schilthorn is closed April 23-26 for example.

For details on Schilthorn and other mountains, use our link here to find your mountain and then click the route tab for details on how to get there and any closure dates: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/naturalsites

You can normally find your train, bus, boat and cable car schedules to any town or mountain with the SBB timetable here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable but note that next year’s schedule won’t be released until mid-October; but you can check now for travel schedules/duration etc to get an idea.

    Hi Hedvig,

Zermatt is wonderful too, it’s up to you which region you prefer. The disadvantage of Zermatt is that it’s pretty high and isolated, so in April hiking options might be limited. But for two days that should not be much of an issue. Please see:

    Does this help you out?
