This is for Swiss railway enthusiasts: the 6 km long Albula tunnel between Preda and Spinas will be replaced. It's the longest tunnel of the Bernina Express route. The new tunnel will be built from July 25, 2015, and should be ready in 8 years. The costs are estimated at CHF 345 million.
The new tunnel will be built right next to the current tunnel, which was opened in 1903. The old tunnel is going to be the future emergency tunnel, and will be connected to the new tunnel in 12 places for evacuations.
