As of 11 May 2019, the Bernina Express adds a new option covering the stretch from Landquart via Davos to its journey towards the Val Poschiavo and Tirano (IT). The passage through the Prättigau Valley extends the delightful ride by roughly 45 kilometres. Between Davos and Filisur, the Bernina Express crosses the highest bridge of the Rhaetian Railway, the Wiesner Viaduct.

However this is not as spectacular as the route from Chur via Tiefencastel to Filisur.

The Wiesen viaduct is one of the few open sections between Davos and Filisur – a lot of the line is in trees or tunnel. But even at the Wiesen viaduct you will only see a quick glimpse unless you get off the train and walk which you can’t do from the Bernina Express

Thanks Rockoyster! It makes an interesting route I think; longer than the default one from Chur. Possibly more interesting for passengers from Zurich if it connects well in Landquart.

Not much to choose as far as Zurich connection options go. 07:07 IC3 from Zurich to CHur stopping at Landquart is probably best for both options to ensure at least 10 mins allowance for connections.

See attached for joining BEX at (1) Landquart (2) Chur.

Interesting, in that case it’s almost a random pick. Both routes are good. I guess they both have to connect to the same buses to Lugano from Tirano, so timings are similar.
