    Hi NannyNorman,

Thanks for sharing your itinerary. Here are my thoughts on it.

Nov 2 – Trip from Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Mürren. Yes, this is possible in 1 day and there are regular trains to take you there. Please click on the links to find more details about each destination and how to get there (click on the Route tab). To find the best connection, please use the SBB timetable.

Nov 3 – The Jungfraujoch is open all year round but the cable car to Grindelwald First will not be running this time of the year.

Nov 4 – There will be no Glacier Express running between 25 Oct and 11 Dec, 2021. Perhaps you’d like to do the Voralpen Express instead.

Nov 6 – You can reach Mount Pilatus all year round. I’d recommend doing the round trip – taking the train to Alpnachstad, then the cogwheel train to the top. Then once you’re done at the top, take the gondola and cable car down to Kriens. There are trams and buses to Lucerne, and you can spend the rest of the day exploring the city on foot.

Based on your itinerary, you should probably be looking at getting the 3-day Swiss Travel Pass in combination with several days of Saver Day Pass. The Swiss Half Fare Card could also be a possibility, however it’s not the most convenient as you would still need to buy tickets for every trip. For a quick explanation of these railpasses, have a look here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swissrailpasses This guide could be helpful if you are unsure about which railpass to get: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

It’s important to check the weather forecast before any trip. You can find the link and more info here: http://www.myswissalps.com/weather/forecast

Hope this gets you started. Let us know if you need more information.

    Regards,

    Anna

Thank you very much for your time Anna, I am disappointed that glacier express and first walk is not operational which in my number one bucket list, i will check my itinerary again.

In your own opinion as a resident of Switzerland, it is worth going on the first week of november or it is better wait for the summer?

    Hi NannyNorman,

Summer would definitely be a great time to visit as the days are longer and you can do and see so much more in a day.

But November is a good time to experience a different season and see the autumn foliage. it’s also one of the quietest period so you might be able to find more good deals and promotion this time of the year.

Some useful information here regarding the best time to visit: http://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit

    Hi NannyNorman!

The Glacier Express is a wonderful experience indeed. Theoretically, you could still travel the same route in regular trains. Please refer to “Regular trains versus Glacier Express” at http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress. You can use the route description at http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere and the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable to plan this in detail.

But note that Lucerne-Chur-Zermatt-Lucerne all in one day is a very long journey. Anna’s suggestion of the Voralpen Express is very nice and much easier to be done from Lucerne. You may also like:
