Hello everyone,

We will be traveling through Switzerland and Austria from May 22 through June 5th. We will be visiting Lucerne , Lugano, and Zurich in Switzerland. in late May. We plan on staying more in the cities, however we will be visiting Mt. Rigi and travel on the lakes some. My question is about clothing, especially about jackets. We have been following the temperature the past few weeks and question if we will need to take our down jacket inserts at all, especially since we are trying to be space conscience in our small luggage.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and ideas.

If Rigi is a high as you will go, you probably will not require the down inserts. The lower altitudes will be moderate in temperature in late May and early June. Can be rainyin May/June, however. I would definitely have something to layer up with.... a sweater or two, for example. If it is gray and cloudy, it can be kind of cold and raw in the wind.

There are quite a few websites that include historic weather data as well as forecasts. Here is an example that may be useful:bergfex.com/rigi/ wetter/prognose/ The weather does change often in the mountains and, unless you are able to change your plans to accommodate a cold, or windy, or rainy, or snowy day you should plan to carry a light midlayer and a rain jacket or shell.
