Hi kjbaron,
Where in Switzerland will you be and when?
I haven’t done any overnight hikes myself (other members have and can give you personal suggestions) but have a look at the Swiss Alpen Club’s website. They list the available alpine huts around Switzerland you can hike to and book for an overnight stay.

We were going to do a route that follows the Via Alpina stages 8, 9 and 10. We were going to use the available cable cars, ski lifts and post busses, but obviously you can change things to fit what you want to do. We weren’t able to do it because of weather.

Hi kjbaron-
Many ordinary trails have hotels at the end of them, or along the way. Or, a town or village may be close to a mountain trail. So, you do not have to do hut -to -hut hiking or take the special trails, such as the Via Alpina, although parts of some may work well.
Just as an example, you can walk from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg ( 2 or 3 hours) and sleep there. Or, continue on to Wengen– several more hours – and sleep there. Nice trails, good accommodation. Or, continue to Alpiglen and stay at the mountain guest house there.
