    Hi ,

We are a family of 5 including parents and a 7 year old kid planning our first trip to Switzerland from 17th July to 25th July.

We are landing in zurich to directly leave for Lucerne the same day. With diverse demographics esp. with older parents, we are not looking at hiking intensive places. Couple of excursions we found interesting from Lucerne:

Luzerne – Interlaken expressway – its a 1hour 50 mts journey- wanted reviews and best way to avail this

Discover Heidiland – it is a private tour for family – would want advice if this is a good option to spend a day

Lucerne Panorama Sightseeing – its a 90 minute tour – ned advise on this as well as where to halt before returning to base to spend the rest of the day

Is taking the Kambly roundtrip or doing Sorenberg a good idea for day 3

Next, wanted to understand if shifting base to Grindelwald from day 4 is a good idea – can we start with a day trip to interlaken and Grindelwald .

    From Grindelwald :

Gondola Ride on day 1 to First and maybe walk to lake Bachalpsee

    Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch

Is this too sparse, was wondering if we can squeeze in Montreux or the Rhine waterfalls- bit confused about this .

Your advise is highly appreciated on the above. Secondly, would also want to understand the best way of using the trains( we will not be driving).

    Thanks In anticipation.

    Swati

Hi Swati and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    • The Luzern – Interlaken Express is the train you would take if you travel to Interlaken. It is quite scenic and worth the trip. You can use the Swiss railways timetable for all train, bus, boat, cable car schedules: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable
    • I’m not sure what this tour is. Do you have a link for it?
    • Same here for Kambly – not sure where that is. As for Sorenberg, I think maybe you want the Brienzer Rothorn trip here? https://www.myswissalp s.com/brienzerrothorn

If not, and you want to go to Sorenberg there via train and PostBus from Luzern. A bit out of the way (but perhaps quite a but quieter!) I haven’t been to Sorenberg myself. What got you interested in it? I don’t think it has come up here before.

Whilst at Lucerne, take time out to visit the Museum of Transport. A short bus ride from the stop just over the main bridge, you and especially the kids won’t be disappointed.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for the warm and detailed reply! 🙂

Will use the links you have shared to work out the itinerary

Was going through some family friendly excursions where I came across these: http://www.luzern.com/en/excu rsions-and-resorts/excursions/dis cover-heidiland

Sorenberg interested me as read somewhere that it has rich flora and is registered with UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. Good to hear you have been there – will check the feasibility of travelling down.

Will be back asking for more advice once I narrow down my itinerary.

Once again Thanks a lot 🙂

Sounds like you did some good research – I haven’t been to Sörenberg myself. Looks nice though!

    Thanks!

Following is the itinerary we have chalked out for 7 nights:

Landing in zurich and leaving for Lucerne the same day on 17th july

Day 1 at Lucerne: Take the lucerne – Interlaken express

Day 2 – Lucerne cruise any suggestions on how to avail this ) – if time permits would want to do the Transport Museum

Day 3- trip to Mt. Titlus( have chosen this between Pilatus and Rigi as well)

    Day 4 – Brienzer – Rotham express

Day 5 – is for moving to Grindelwald should we squeeze in Sorenberg on the same day ?( any possible routrs..)

Day 6 -Jungfrauroch Railway – we want to reach and goto Ice Palace ( have heard good reviews for the Snow Park as a good activity place for kids)

Day 7 – ride to FIRST( some suggest taking the short walk to Bachalpsee- is it worth it ) – is the swiss pass ok to take the return trip

Day 8 – this is the last day, we have an evening flight from Zurich the next day – Should we do the Grindelwald town center and do Rhine waterfall the next day enroute to Zurich or should we do Rhine and come back this day itself.

Your suggestions/Advice would greatly help . Also, would a swiss pass for 7 days suffice for all this?

We are pretty much sure of all that we have to cover – wanted your views on if this looks too sparse/ambitious 🙂

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Swait,

    Looks good.

    Day 2: Lake Lucerne cruise: https://www.myswissalp s.com/boatlakelucerne

Day 5: It is possible – use the timetable to plan out the routes and see the schedule options.

Day 7: Yes the Bachalpsee is a great hike: https://www.myswissalp s.com/hiking/bachsee

Day 8: Do the Rheinfall when you are in Zurich, not from Grindelwald. https://www.myswissalp s.com/rheinfall
