Hello,

We have made Swiss Travel plans for last week of March with base at Lucerne. I plan to visit Mount Rigi on 28th March and seek expert advice on combining Boating +Ariel Cable car + trains+mountain experience. I reviewed the forum posts for this topic and accordingly chartered this course:

1. Departure by boat from Lucerne to Vitznau
2. Departure by rack railway from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm
3. Return by rack railway from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad
4. Cable car from Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis
5. Boat from Weggis to Lucerne

Suits us ,but unfortunately the RIGI site states that the cable car from RigiKaltbad to Weggis will be under maintenance during these days.Is there any other route by which I can include Ariel cable car in this itinerary.My kids would love to ride open cable car/ski lifts ( although they are aged 10 and 12 they don’t actually ski).

Nice to hear you’ll be coming to Switzerland soon.

Your research on the Mount Rigi excursion is absolutely correct, unfortunately also the mentioned maintenance work of the Weggis-Rigi Kaltbad cable car is correct.

There is not really a way to include a cable car alternative on Mount Rigi I’m afraid. Look at the following link for more details.

You could, especially considering your children and their desire to ride cable cars, see the snow, etc. also consider visiting Mount Titlis, also a very nice day trip from Lucerne.

There is snow all year round on Mount Titlis, incl. snow activities for beginners/non-skiers as well as two cable cars for transport and a chair lift for non-skiers to use as an attraction.
