I know this is a long day (7:30am-5:30pm) but we are 2 couples late 40s/early 50s, fit and love the outdoors. Is this a do-able itinerary? I’ve listed the time I think is generally needed for each activity but we are not trying to rush through.

    – First train up from Lauterbrunnen to Schilthorn via Murren (stopping at Birg for Thrill Walk) (1 hour)

    – Visit Schilthorn and have breakfast at Piz Gloria (2 hours)

    – Train down to Grutschalp (30 min)

    – Hike Grutschalp to Murren (1.5 hours)

    – Walk around Murren, have a snack (1 hour)

    – Hike Murren to Gimmelwald (30 min)

    – Train to Stechelberg (30 min)

    – Hike Stechelberg to Lauterbrunnen with stops at Staubbach Falls and Trummelbach Falls (3 hours)

    Thank you!

At what time of the year do you want to do this?

You could do it now because this year has been exceptionally dry, but normally you would want to do that between early June and late September, also to enjoy more daylight.

Your schedule seems very tight, U would add 30 minutes for the first lap, or skip the Thrill Walk. On the other hand I am not sure you need 2 hours for your breakfast and visit of Schilthorn. Check again the schedule for Schilthorn to Grütschalp, it could take more than your assumed 30 minutes.

And be well trained, downhill hikes can be strenuous on your legs.

We will be there the latter part of June, 2019. Thanks for the advice!

    Hi Selenam –

What you call trains are in many cases cableways.

That missimpresion may come from translation of the German “die Bahn” to “train.”

For clarity, please look carefully at the the fine details in the timetable:

This detailed map may refine the details for you:

“Visit Schilthorn and have breakfast at Piz Gloria (2 hours)

Hike Grutschalp to Murren (1.5 hours)”

You can do this, of course, but to get to Grütschalp from Schilthorn you need to take the gondola down to Mürren then take the train to Grütschalp. The walking trail between Grütschalp and Mürren parallels the train tracks. So not sure it’s worth taking the train to Grütschalp from Mürren then turning around and covering the same views but this time on foot.

One hour atop Schilthorn is plenty of time. That’s one revolution of the restaurant so you will see all the views. Be sure to check departure schedules upon your arrival at Schilthorn so you know exactly which gondola you want to be on going down. Gondolas depart every 17 minutes.

Transport from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg is also via the Schilthorn gondola. Departures from Gimmelwald run every 17 minutes, likewise. You are trying to pack a lot into a single day so you will want to have all of the schedules for each leg of your journey so you know where you need to be and when.

Thank you, those are good points. I will take another look.
