    Hi all,

Me and my husband will be going to Switzerland for our honeymoon this coming dec.
We have come up with a tentative itinerary. Please advise if this is a feasible plan in december.
We decided to base ourselves in Bernese Oberland, Zermatt and St Moritz.
We have 13 days, but i still have two days which are unplanned, might spend the last 2 days in Zurich before taking the flight home.

Day 1: Reach Zurich. Head to Bernese Oberland to sleep.
Day 2: Head to Luzern (Lion monument, Mt Rigi, Mt Pilatus). Sleep in Bernese Oberland
Day 3: Head to Interlaken, Junfraujoch and Gimmelwald. Sleep in Bernese Oberland
Day 4: Head to Montreux (Chateau de Chillon, Roche de Nayes). Then head to Zermatt and sleep.
Day 5-6: Zermatt (Matterhorn and ski)
Day 7: Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz. Sleep in St Moritz
    Day 8-9: St Moritz
Day 10: St Moritz (to Lugano)
Day 11: St Moritz to Zurich (old town if time permits and flight back)

One of our main concerns will be whether it will be easy to walk around in Dec as in whether there will be too much snow. Also, are we spending the wrong amount of time at the various places?

We have not yet give a good thought of how to travel from places to places. But will most probably be getting a swiss pass.

Thanks in advance for your precious advice!

    Hi Aurora,

Your itinerary looks great to me. Day 2 and 4 are quite full but doable. You can work out the travel details through the timetable. The funicular up to the Pilatus will not be operating in Winter, but you can still reach it by cable car. I think it’s good to also spend a couple of days in one place (St. Moritz). It allows you to really explore its surroundings, and also you’ll be more flexible with your visits to summits, as you need clear weather for that. That’s a risk for your day 2 to 4.

Walking in snow can be difficult if you don’t wear proper shoes. There will probably not be any snow in towns in lower elevations (e.g. Zurich), but you need good shoes for Alpine towns such as Zermatt. Just take it slow and you’ll be fine. It’s fun to walk in snow as well! You may want to do some easy winter trails. The local tourist offices can help you pick the right one.

A 15 day Swiss Saver Pass would be ideal for your plans. Please check out our pages about Zurich, Luzern, Interlaken, Zermatt and St. Moritz for hotel suggestions.

    Thanks Arno!
Can you advise where we should spend our 2 days? Zurich? or more days in Bernese Oberland?

Also, in Bernese Oberland, where would be a good town to stay in so that taking trains to Luzern and Interlaken would be easier? (hotels with good views would be a big plus!)

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Arora. You could easily spend more days in the Bernese Oberland without getting bored. But it you’re curious for a city visit, Zurich would be fine too; it just depends on your preferences.

Interlaken is a good central location for both the Bernese Oberland and Lucerne. Nearby Wilderswil is more quiet and scenic, but still located centrally.
