Hi! I just collected my Swiss Half Fare passes from the Singapore office but was advised by the staff I can only purchase tickets over the counter at the train stations. Can I confirm if this is the only mode of purchase as I was also advised by fellow forummers I can purchase the tickets online or via the sbb app. If it’s via the app, what will be the promo code I need to key in?

    thanks all!

    Hi Faith1234,

It’s explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare. Basically you can buy such tickets in lots of ways, including various websites, last minute at the station or the app. You do not need a promo code. Just indicate that the traveler has a Swiss Half Fare Card, and you’ll get the lower prices.

By the way, next time you need a Swiss Half Fare Card, you can simply print it at home: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/price

    Enjoy the rides!

You’re welcome! If you prefer the app you can start a train search and then a purchase within the app. It should pop up the question if you have a “Half-Fare or GA travelcard (1/2)” . That works fine for trips within Switzerland. Be careful with international tickets though, because the Half-Fare travelcard is similar but not identical to the Swiss Half Fare Card: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard/detail s.

I tried to check prices from Zurich to Wengen and price displayed is CHF42.20. There’s this little ‘!’ beside and I clicked on it,it says ‘Reduced Fare for Half Fare Travel Card holders’. Does this mean the discount is already applied? I will only be traveling within Switzerland with the Half Fare Travel Pass. Thanks!

No, just start a purchase and you’ll get the question before you pay and check out. If you don’t find this convenient you can also buy at the station or the websites listed here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare/price. On these sites you just select the Swiss Half Fare Card once for each traveler, and then it will be taken into account for each purchase. International tickets work too there as it is the actual Swiss Half Fare Card you can select here. The tickets can be printed at home.

Thanks Arno, think our messages crossed. I was editing my post and got your reply. I actually tried to check out from the app but there was no prompt even at the payment page. Was hoping to purchase the tickets via the app as our plans can be rather fluid depending on weather.

O yes, I see that your post is edited now 🙂 I’m not sure what is happening in your app, but the price makes sense. It would be double that amount without a Swiss Half Fare Card.

Ok great! I read in another thread – it says I just need to show the e train ticket on my phone for checking when I board?

Not when you board, only when requested during the ride.

    Have a great trip!

In the SBB app you need the edit the passenger details to ensure half fare. 1/1 = full fare, 1/2 = half fare. It’s a Swiss thing. 🤓

Thanks rockoyster! I wasn’t able to edit any details when I select my tickets but will try again. However as per Arno shared the fares reflected are already at 50% off so I reckon it should be fine?

On about the 3rd or 4th line of the Ticket Options screen on the SBB App you should see “Edit travelers” in red. Click on that if you ever need to.
